FOUNDATION DAY: 3RD SEPTEMBER
Since 2001, as an annual feature, we celebrate our Foundation's Day by organizing a workshops / panel disussions / seminars to mark its birth anniversay
“An Integrated Approach to Education” – a panel discussion on 3rd September 2001 was conducted at the Foundation’s office at Warden Road.
Dr. Vijaya Murthy, Director, SIES College of Comprehensive Education was the moderator.
The discussion recognized that there was an awareness of special needs and their integration in regular schools and that it was necessary to recognize the potential of children of varying capacities in order that they be successfully mainstreamed.
“Integrating Systems, Structures and Policies in Education” - a national seminar on 6th and 7th September 2002 at the YMCA International House was inaugurated by
Dr. Sompal, Planning Member Commission, Government of India and blessed by
Mr. R. M. Lala, Director of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. Several key issues relating to the Integration of education were discussed and a consensus emerged that: the child should be the focus of the education system whether normal, special or remedial and there should be flexibility in evaluations and assessments and a comprehensive approach to teaching education.
“How Children Learn and Why They Fail” – a panel discussion on 3rd September 2003 was conducted at the Foundation’s office at Warden Road. It dealt with issues concerning the need to recognize that children learn differently and accordingly strategies need to be developed.
“Inclusion in Action: Issues and Strategies”, on 3rd and 4th September 2004 at the YMCA International House.
The inaugural and the key note address was given by
Prof. Suma Chitins, Former Vice Chancellor, SNDT Women's University, Mumbai.
The seminar dealt with policies and practices of inclusion in various educational organizations.
“Autism and Giftedness: Education’s Enigma” on 3rd September 2005 at the YMCA International House.
The Chief Guest was
Dr. R. K. Anand, Medical Director, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre. The discussion centred on the themes of autism and giftedness as seen from the perspective of three groups –
(i) “parents of autistic / gifted children”
(ii) the “professionals” dealing with these developmental issues and
(iii) the “educators” who are instrumental in helping children with diversities.
“Innovative Teaching Methodologies”, on 2nd September 2006 at the YMCA International House.
The Chief Guest was Dr. K. Subramaniam, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. Morning Session:
“Experiential Learning through the Web of Life”– was conducted by from Avehi Abacus, an NGO. Afternoon Session:
“Toying with Junk” – this was conducted by Mr. Ashok Rupner from IUCA, Pune.
“Learning on a String: The Integrated Way”, on 3rd September 2007 at the YMCA International House. The Chief Guest was Ms. Poonam Mehta, an internationally renowned Pre-school Consultant from Hongkong.The workshop was on puppetry, conducted by a four member team from Mobile Crèches, an NGO that works for the education and welfare of children of construction workers in many metros of India.
“A Decade of Growth”, on 9th April 2009 at the C. K. Nayudu Hall, C.C. I., Churchgate. The Chief Guest was Mr. R. M. Lala and the release of 10 year report - CD was by Mr. A. N. Singh, Managing Trustee, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust
